Hey David,
Great post and idea. You've been staying really on busy on this. Good for you mate!

Throwing my ring in the hat, I would say that my biggest problem as been getting over the hump. I've got an adwords campaign going that's doing pretty well, but still not up to that level that I'd like to get to. I think one of the biggest things that's held me up is organic traffic to my site. In other words, traffic to my site that doesn't come from paid advertising.

Once I get to the point where its at least half and half, I'll feel much better about it. Oh yeah, we got a new video up at themarketingmadmen at youtube. You should check it out and you can see how far we've made it and where we're trying to get.

You're doing great David and congrats. Will look forward to when we all make it and can meet up during our travels.

Since Matt and David have already stolen my focus problem, the second item on my list of many is deciding on what to become the so called expert in. I should really pick a category or specialty to become very knowledgeable about and then help others in that area. But I am having a hard time doing that. Kind of related to focus but more like not choosing something to focus on.

Hi David,

My biggest problem with building a sustainable information product business is that you need to have a complete system in place and it has to all be done right.

There are so main guides and systems out there that have part of the puzzle but not enough. You always end up having to join the bits together by yourself, or worse still have to try and find the missing parts to make it complete.

Thanks

Hi David,

I would have to say, like Matt, my main downfall has be a lack of focus and ultimately setting up a sustainable, long term business. I have always flitted from one thing to the next, picking up some money along the way until the well runs dry and then it's onto the next thing.

I have had some major aha moments over the past month or so and realise it's time to go back to basics, put out some good content and stop chasing the money around.

I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

David

Hey David,
I think the biggest challenge for me when it comes to internet marketing has always been a lack of focus. I am the guy who purchases one ebook, tries it for a few days, and then moves on to another method. I have always had a hard time working on any one method if it doesn't see immediate results. I am working extremely hard to break myself of that cycle but that has always been my biggest downfall up until this point.

Hi David,

Found your post at the Warriors Forum, and got here out of curiosity. Getting straight to business ( :P ) - neither the traffic (or lack of it thereof), nor the learning curves associated with the tech aspects of setting up a website stop me from getting started as an internet marketeer. I'm considerably tech-savvy (write WP plugins, use Linux, make my own graphics, etc), and if I may say so myself - I really can't think of any one step of any IM guide that I've read that I cannot execute.

So what's stopping me?

I just feel myself lacking in creativity. All the tactics look trite to me, I can't think of a single thing that hasn't been done before. Sure, if its popular, it's popular for a reason - and I am sure I will even make some $$$'s off the - ahem - "proven" strategies. But I want to do something unusual. The problem is that I'm myself put off when I see big headlines making claims to being unusual (never-seen-before, next-big-thing yada yada - pick your synonym!), so even being different has, ironically, become cliche.

Grrr :|

Dunno, sometime I'm sure I'm going to give up on the ambition of creativity in favor of getting to it and making some cash :) Also, perhaps my problem is that I am unable to do any copywriting that's truly out of the box. Any attempt at anything that looks remotely like a sales page sounds horribly standard (a fellow marketeer would see through it right away, and tick off the "techniques" employed).

Marketing doesn't come to me naturally (if there is any such thing), and I am not the aggressive types. Perhaps it's not something a marketeer should aim for, but I want to be somewhat subtle, and still make the money.

So [apparent lack of] creativity is perhaps the best way to describe my stumbling block. Let's see how it goes!

Best,
Avani
