A Day in the Life of….Me!

Well..

I have been asked by a few of my subscribers what I do on a daily basis – so I thought I’d write a blog post on it. Now this isn’t a tutorial of any kind, it’s just giving you an idea of what I do on a ‘typical’ day! (Not that I have many that are typical…

I’ll admit it that I very nearly didn’t write this! I’ve had some computer problems today – but more on that later!

Today started like any other day. I woke up at around 7.30am and got dressed. I take my girlfriend to her job in the morning, it means that I have to get up out of bed..I’m not a morning person – so having her shout at me cause she’s going to late gives me a reason to get out of bed, and getting up early is making me more productive!

Next stop…Breakfast!

Most morning I have a smoothie for breakfast. Not just any smoothie…this is like having 10 cups of coffee – with none of the bad side effects associated with a caffeine overdose!

The secret being raw cacao, maca powder and goji berries. if you aren’t yet into smoothies – I recommend you do right away. The last 6 weeks have seen me lose 15lbs in weight and become more productive. It feels good! (I have been running a few miles a day too..so its not just the smoothies which have helped me lose weight)!

Then it was the drive to take my girlfriend to her job…and one thing I don’t miss about having a job myself. The morning rush hour traffic. I’m not used to queuing anymore as when I’m out driving, everybody is usually at work! Oh well…It’s not too bad. I have some MP3’s on my iPod from Kyle Tully over at Consulting Tycoon. (I’m starting to consult with local businesses – and this program has given me some killer ideas)!

My Dogs!

My Dogs!

Once I get home, it’s time to hit the office. But my 2 dogs have different ideas…they want to go outside and play. they may look innocent… but they can be pretty mischievous when they want to be! A few rounds of ‘fetch’ and I decide to head inside to start working or I never will – it’s a nice day to sit around and not work, and I don’t need my arm twisting to take a day off! :)

So then..what did I have on today? I opened up my to do list and saw I had a meeting at 10.30am, then the rest of the day was prepping for a webinar, some phone calls and also sending some direct mail letters promoting my consultancy services, and last but not least – this blog post!

10.30am arrives and after some trouble finding a parking space, I make it to my meeting on time. My meeting is with a group called Shout! Preston, which is a local business directory – but they also host networking events and do a whole lot more to help you promote your business. I will be joining them soon so that I can network with local business owners to grow my own consultancy business.

After the meeting I head home to start the rest of my tasks..

When I get back – I have  message off one of my friends Dean Holland, asking we what I want to be called in a video he has just made – don’t worry – he’s not calling me anything nasty! He’s decided for me by the time I get back..and you can check out the video here.

Over the next few hours I prepped for a webinar I am hosting this weekend, and also made some calls to a few businesses I may be consulting with and sent some  letters to potential prospects! Direct mail is a great way to get in contact with business owners, and the campaign I am running at the minute is KILLER! If you want more information on this then just leave a comment and I will tell you what I do via email!

Mid afternoon and it’s football time. Todays match. Italy Vs Slovakia. You have to love the world cup! If you don’t know – Italy lost and went out of the World Cup. The days just getting better! (Sorry if you’re Italian)!

I finished watching the game, and realized it was nearly 5pm – so I’d better go and pick my girlfriend up from work. I was a bit late because of the football – but she didn’t mind!

When we got back (through the rush hour traffic….again). I logged back on to check my emails and chat to some friends on Skype, I was talking to one of my buddies Marcus Campbell when disaster struck! (Check Marcus out, he’s a really cool guy and has some awesome free content on his site).

All my desktop icons changed to Adobe shortcuts and I couldn’t open any  of them…and with me not being the most technical person – it took me a few hours to fix it. At one point..I thought I was going to have to reinstall windows which wouldn’t have been good!

That brings me to where I am now…

Which is about to go for a run, I’m trying to run 3 miles a day. Not only is it helping me get in shape – but I have some great ideas when I’m out of the office and clearing my head! So on that note.. I best get moving!

I’d love to know what you have been doing today, so feel free to leave me a comment and let me know!

Hey Dave,

This is interesting stuff you have shared here. Like yourself my to do list varies each day but here’s what’s normally involved. I start off by checking emails, then send emails, add new content to my blog, interact with other marketers on forums & other social networking sites, sign up to giveaway events but I must admit I easily get distracted at some point throughout the day. It looks like you spend more time with offline business then online. I would like to know more.

Thanks Ed

Hey David,
Got up this morning and worked out. Normally since I don\’t have a membership to the gym right now I do about 800 push ups and 400 dips to get the blood pumping and get on the computer to check my emails. Ran across yours and wanted to check you out. Look forward to learning more about you. Take care!

Hi Dave

After reading this post I think you have managed to start making a living from your online expereiences? Well done. I am one of Alexs 3.0 students and one day will be doing the same as you. I love the “routine” just what I’m looking for!!

I am also interested in your consultancy area…..where do I find more info?

Hi David,
Thanks for the nitty gritty stuff….rather than all the BS.
Very interested in the offline work you are doing….I am getting
tgether all my resources for helping local businesses.

Unfortunately, I need the money like yesterday but I realise
I have to focus on their needs not mine.
Time is the big factor though……juggling the wife and kids
can be a challenge…..and very tiring :) and holding down a
JOB.

I want to offer the businesses simple, effective websites but
I don\’t want to be ripping them off building a fancy website
with no traffic.
Bac to the j-o-b.
Cheers
Shaun

David,

You must have gotten past the point of having to spend the hours learning and doing…you are enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Hey David,

I think it\’s sad but cool that you still brave traffic, not once but twice a day, when you don\’t have to…lucky girl you have there!

I\’m looking forward to getting past some of the \"grunt work\" myself so I have more time to work on new projects. I would be very interested in your new campaign if you would care to share.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Lesley

Hi David

Interesting day – like the sound of the smoothie and the associated weight loss. It is amazing what we sometimes fit into one day.

A little about me – My name is Sue McDonald and I am a student of Mark Terrell and I am actually going through the course a second time – by invitation. I love it and know if I do all he says, I will be successful. I am Australian but the US is my second home as I have family there and visit quite often. This is why I started Internet Marketing so I can travel whenever I want and have the money to do what I want.

Well I hope you are doing well and you become very successful. I would love you to come visit my blog and leave a comment.

Kind regards

Sue

David…isn’t internet marketing wonderful? The freedom it allows is worth every bit of what I had to do to get into this position. Yeah, like everyone, I kissed a lot of (female) frogs before I started to “make it”, but man…if people only realized the rewards you get by just sticking to it! I love being able to be here to get the kids off to school, and then being here when they get back…helping them with homework, etc. Nothing I can think of could be better!
Appreciate the blog and the posts very much!

Dave

Day sounds great – beats my day at work (even though my “commute” is a 15 min walk!) – will hopefully get there soon.

Would love to hear some more detail on what you do with your direct mail as I’m starting to explore consultancy services to offer to offline businesses.

Speak soon
